Berkeley City Officials
Visit Palma, July 2003
City Councilmember Linda Maio, and Rent Board Commissioners Judy Ann Alberti and Selma Vincent, visited Berkeley's Cuban Sister City as part of a 12-member delegation during the historic 50th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Garrison. Delegates also spent time in Santiago de Cuba and some of it's other municipalities, along with other special visits to Havana and Viñales. Everyone was warmly received and graciously hosted by the citizens and leaders of Palma and Santiago. Special events in Palma included visits to a Senior Center, a rural medical clinic, the Casa de la Cultura, a dairy processing plant, an agricultural cooperative, the main library, and an artist's workshop. Also in Santiago, delegates enjoyed the nights of Carnaval. Members had wonderful, rich experiences and learned a great deal from these profound people-to-people exchanges.
